Why France Is Special to Us

Before Paris, there was Laval

When we think about France, we do not think of one trip or one photograph. We think of timing. France entered our story in April 2023, when we met again in Laval after our paths had already crossed in several almost-but-not-quite ways. SwiftXR had been invited to receive an award, Hadeeart travelled from London in place of Ishaq, and the trip gave us another reason to be in the same place.

At that point, there was no dramatic declaration and no sense that we needed to force a meaning onto the moment. We were both living through our own personal chapters. We talked, worked, observed each other, and then returned to our lives. Yet Laval stayed with us because it was another reminder that, for some reason, life kept placing us back in each other's orbit.

Looking back, that meeting feels important precisely because nothing had to happen. It was simply two people becoming more familiar, more comfortable, and a little more aware of a connection that still did not have the right timing.

France did not create our story. It became the place where our story changed meaning.

Then Paris changed the meaning of France

By 2024, the story between us had become quieter and more complicated. We had both taken time to finish other chapters properly, and we had learned that liking someone is not the same thing as being ready for them. That pause mattered. It allowed us to come back to each other without confusion, and with more honesty about what we wanted.

On 4 September 2024, while we were together in Paris, we stopped calling what we had “just friendship” and officially began dating. After years of missed meetings, reconnections, work conversations and imperfect timing, Paris became the place where we finally said yes to the possibility that had been following us for years.

There is something fitting about that. Laval represents the almost. Paris represents the choice. One city reminds us of who we were when the timing was not ready; the other reminds us of the moment we were finally ready to move forward together.

A place woven into the wedding story

France is special to us because it holds both patience and beginning. It reminds us that a meaningful relationship does not always start with certainty. Sometimes it grows through ordinary conversations, repeated encounters, and the gradual realisation that the person in front of you has become part of the way you imagine your future.

When we look at photographs from France now, we see more than a destination. We see the distance between “maybe one day” and “we choose this”. We see two people who had already known each other in fragments finally allowing those fragments to become a shared story.

That is why France will always be one of the places we return to in our memories. Not because everything began there, but because it witnessed the moment our story became ours.
