Four Celebrations, One Story: Why We Chose to Celebrate in Chapters

Our wedding journey is not built around one single day. Each celebration holds a different meaning: family, law, faith, culture and joy.

An illustrated portrait representing the four chapters of Hadeeart and Hammed’s wedding journey.

One marriage, several meaningful moments

When people hear that our wedding journey has four celebrations, the obvious question is: why so many? For us, the answer is not about making the wedding bigger. It is about giving different parts of the commitment enough room to be felt.

Our story has always unfolded in chapters, a phone call, a first meeting, a reconnection, France, long distance, family conversations. It almost feels natural that the wedding would follow the same rhythm. Instead of asking one day to carry every cultural, legal, religious and social meaning, we chose to let each moment have its own purpose.

We did not want one event to carry every meaning at once.

The introduction: family first

The introduction in Sagamu was the beginning of the formal wedding journey. Its heart was family: greetings, blessings, recognition and the meeting of the people whose love and histories shaped us before we knew each other. We wanted this chapter to feel intimate because its meaning is relational. It is about saying, in front of family, that these two lives are moving toward one home.

The court wedding: making it official in law

The court wedding in the United Kingdom is a different kind of moment. It is quieter and more practical, but no less significant. This is where the commitment becomes legal, witnessed and recorded. We like the simplicity of that chapter, the idea that amid all the fabrics, colours, travel and celebration, there is also a clear moment when we sign our names and become married in the eyes of the law.

The Akid: centring faith

Our Akid is the faith-centred heart of the wedding journey. It creates space for vows, prayer, family blessings and the spiritual intention behind marriage. We did not want that meaning to be squeezed between other parts of a packed day. Giving it its own setting allows us to be present for what it represents and to begin married life with faith at the centre.

The engagement and reception: culture, community and joy

Then comes the celebration that gathers the wider story together: our engagement and reception on the Lagos waterfront. This is the chapter for colour, culture, family, friends, dinner, music and the joy of finally celebrating with the people who have watched the story unfold. The yacht setting gives that final gathering its own sense of movement and occasion, a fitting way to mark the beginning of the life we are sailing into together.

Seen separately, the four events are very different. Seen together, they tell one story: family receives us, the law recognises us, faith grounds us, and community celebrates us.

That is what we want our wedding season to feel like. Not a rush toward one perfect day, but a collection of meaningful moments we can actually remember. Four celebrations. One marriage. One story still being written.
